Government of the Punjab, Home Department Lahore has accorded sanction for Shaheed / Incapacitation Package for the officers and officials of the Punjab Prisons vide Notification No.SO(R&P)6-1/2012 Dated 13 March 2012. Details of the package are as under:

| I. | Shaheed | Prison officers / officials killed in encounters with terrorists, including death in a bomb blast, riots in jails, or terrorist attacks by performing watch and ward duty, but not including death in accident, shall be awarded compensation of Rs.2,00,0000/- (Rupees Twenty Lac) from compensation fund and Rs.1,00,0000/- (Rupees Ten Lac) from the Punjab Prisons Foundation fund, provided that Home Department may recommend a higher grant for gazetted officers in suitable cases. The award in this category shall be in addition to privileges available under existing rule. |
| II. | Permanent Incapacitation | Officers / officials incapacitated in released from service on this account as a result of injuries received in encounters, bomb blasts, riots, or terrorist activities, but not including accidents in the discharge of official duties, shall be awarded Rs.5,00,000/- (Rupees Five Lac), in each case. The award in this category shall be in addition to privileges available under existing rule. |
| III. | Temporary Incapacitation | Officers / officials incapacitated but still serving in the department shall be awarded Rs.3,00,000/- (Rupees Three Lac), provided that the I.G. Prisons, Punjab, may recommend a higher, one time, grant for gazetted officers in suitable cases. |
| IV. | Education | Children of "Shaheed" personnel shall be provided free education up to Post-Graduate level, and expenses shall be borne by the Government. The I.G. Prisons shall collect details of all expenditures to be incurred on the education of the children of the Shaheed Personnel and submit the financial requirement to the Finance Department through Home Department for sanction of funds. |
| V. | Pay and Allowances | Full pay and allowances shall be admissible to the families of Prisons officers / officials who embraced "Shahadat", till the date of superannuation, with increments and full benefits as allowed by the Government from time to time. |
| VI. | Pension | On retirement of the Shaheed, his / her spouse shall be entitled to full pension as per rules governing superannuating officers / officials. |
Each case for award of compensation shall be considered and recommended or otherwise, by the following committee:
| a. | Inspector General of Prisons | Chairman |
| b. | Deputy Inspector General of Prisons (HQ) | Member |
| c. | Inspector General of Prisons (Region concerned) | Member |
| d. | Superintendent of the Jails (concerned) | Member |
| e. | In case of consideration of a case of an officer / official belonging to the Inspectorate of Prisons, the Regional DIG Prisons and Superintendent Jail shall be substituted by the DIG Prisons (Inspection) and AIG (Security & Discipline) as members. |
The committee shall examine each case on the exact circumstances under which the officer / official was killed or in capacitated so as to determine whether or not the officer / official merits a recommendation for award. The committee will submit complete case to the Home Department along-with its recommendations for approval. Why sanctioning the award, the Home Secretary may specify mode of payment of the compensation amount to the family or the dependents of the officer / official concerned.
