Toll Free Helpline (1124) of the Prisons Department has been established for the quick disposal of grievances / complaints regarding prisoners' issues, on telephonic calls made by their relatives / interviewers.
Inspector General of Prisons has issued orders to all Superintendents of Punjab Jails to remain present in waiting sheds / reception offices from 11:00-AM to 12:00-PM to address the issues / problems of interviewers. Moreover, Intercom sets have been placed at reception of each Jail for interviewers to contact with the Superintendent Jail / Deputy Superintendent Jail for immediate solution of their problems.
In case of no response from the Jail officers, the interviewers can register their complaints with complete particulars on toll free number 1124 regarding:
- Bad behavior of officials with the interviewers
- Sale of sub-standards and costly goods at Jail Canteen
- Unfair demands
- Problems faced by the inmates inside the Jail
- Missing of basic facilities for interviewers like clean wash rooms, drinking water etc
This helpline is controlled directly by the Home Department. On receipt of complaints, directions are issued to the concerned officer / Superintendent Jail by the Home Department and the concerned officer / Superintendent Jail is bound to intimate the steps taken regarding the complaint within 30 minutes. Complainant is also be informed after that. A total of 729 Calls by visitors of Prisoners have been made in this regard w.e.f Sep 17, 2013 to Jan 31, 2017.
