The Punjab Prisons Department is playing a major role in keeping the society safe from the terrorists, corrupt and law-breaking elements.
In the current scenario when the terrorists are pro active and highly trained having latest weapons, two incidents of jail break by terrorists have been reported in the country in recent times. The latest being that of Dera Ismael Khan jail where terrorists attacked the jail with latest artillery and destroyed the main gate and boundary of the jail and were able to take out many high profile dangerous prisoners with them. Those prisoners had remained involved in the terrorist activities.
In these circumstances, the Prisons staff has to be more trained and capable of handling such situations professionally. The Prisons Department has taken many initiatives in this regard. The number of training centers has been increased and a large number of officers and officials have completed their trainings from these training centres. The following training programes had been scheduled for the Prisons Staff:
- Weapon Handling and Firing Training at Army Artillery Centre (Home of Gunners), Attock
- Azad Kashmir Regimental Centre Mansar Camp, Attock
- Elite Training at Elite Centre Lahore
- Commando Training at Rangers Headquarter, Lahore
- Bomb defusing and neutralizing courses at Civil Defence Training Centres at Lahore and Faisalabad
In addition to the above-mentioned training programs, the National Academy for Prisons Administration, the Punjab Prisons Staff Training Institute, Lahore and all the Regional Training Centres at different jails are imparting basic, refresher and mandatory promotion training courses to the officers and officials of the Prisons Department.
Apart from physical training of Officers and Officials, a good number of officers have also undergone training courses from National School of Public Policy Lahore, Management and Professional Development Department Lahore and National Academy for Prisons Administration Lahore to help boost their capacity and performance / efficiency.
