Up-gradation of Basic Pay Scales

Up-gradation of officers from Assistant Superintendent up-to Inspector General of Prisons

On 2 May 2009, Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry visited the Central Jail Lahore. On 21 September 2009, on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitar, the Chief Justice visited Central Jail Rawalpindi. Besides passing various orders respecting management of prisons and prisoners during the said visits of jails, he issued verbal directions to the concerned authorities of Punjab Government for upgrading the pay scales of the prison officers in the Punjab and increasing their salaries. Later, Khawaja Muhammad Sharif, Chief Justice, Lahore High Court, Lahore took Suo Moto notice of the case and issued directions to the provincial Government for upgrading the posts of incumbents of the Punjab Prisons to make them at par with the equivalent ranks of the Punjab Police. Government of the Punjab, Home Department, Lahore vide Notification No.SO(Prs)18-24/2009 Dated 26 September 2009 and Dated 26 March 2010 up-graded the pay scales of prison officers in the Punjab equivalent to respective ranks of the Punjab Police, except Assistant Superintendent. The post of Assistant Superintendent was up-graded from BPS-14 to BPS-16.

Up-gradation of Warder Establishment and Religious Teachers

Government of the Punjab, Finance Department, Lahore vide Notification No.FD.PC.40-58/2019(A) Dated 25th April, 2022 up-graded the post of Warder from BPS-5 to BPS-7, Head Warder from BPS-7 to BPS-9, Chief Warder from BPS-9 to BPS-11 and Religious Teacher from BPS-12 to BPS-15. The incumbents of the up-graded posts also stood up-graded and their pay fixed at the stage next above their basic pay in their lower pay scales w.e.f. 01-04-2022. No premature increment on up-gradation of the posts was allowed as per policy of Government of the Punjab.
