Punjab Prisons Foundation Lahore (PPFL) was first notified by the S&GAD Department on 14 February 1996 under the Charitable Endowment Act, 1890 but the same could not be operationalized due to various observations of the Public Accounts Committee and Government functionaries. However, efforts continued and finally on the advice of the Law Department, the Punjab Prisons Foundation Lahore (PPFL) was registered in May 2012 under the provisions of Societies Act, 1860.
The Home Secretary Punjab is ex-officio Chairman of the Society and Inspector General of Prisons Punjab is Secretary General of the PPFL. First meeting of the PPFL was held on 11.12.2013 and Minutes of Meeting were issued. Thereafter, various meetings on different occasions were held for installation of PCOs in 10 Jails and other welfare purposes.
The second meeting of the Punjab Prisons Foundation Lahore was held under the chairmanship of Maj. (Retd) Azam Suleman Khan, Home Secretary Punjab/Chairman PPFL in his office chamber at the Punjab Civil Secretariat Lahore on 26.02.2014. Third meeting of the foundation was held on 21.02.2015. Different agenda points for welfare of the prisoners and the employees of Punjab Prisons were discussed during these meetings. A reasonable number of employees have become members of the PPFL who regularly contribute / pay their subscriptions to the funds of the foundation.
Aim and objective
The basic aim and objective of the PPFL is welfare of prisoners and members. The Executive Committee of PPFL upon recommendations of the Secretary General reserves the right to use the resources of PPFL in any lawful manner to achieve the above objective.
