The outbreak of dangerous epidemic dengue virus/fever has claimed many lives as well as infected thousands of people across the country. The following instructions/precautionary measures have been adopted on war footing basis for the abatement and cure of the said epidemic virus in Punjab Jails. Due to adopting timely precautionary measures, not even a single case of dengue was reported from any Jail in the Punjab: |

- Spray/fumigation against the mosquitoes must be conducted twice a week (morning and evening)
|
- Stagnant water should not exist on grassy plots of Jail
|
- Static water must not present in the plants and in flower beds of the jail
|
|
- Soda ash must be thrown from time to time to all the wash rooms of the jail
|
- Ensure that all the tubs in the wash rooms/bathroom must not be filed with water as the dengue mosquitoes flourish in the standing water
|
- Anti-mosquitoes spray should also be conducted outside the jail
|
|
- Appropriate and serious attention must be given to the cleanliness of the jail
|
|
- On the time of changing of the warder guards, the mospel lotion must be given to the warders for applying the same to their exposed parts of their bogies
|
- All the prisoners and staff who are working outside the jail barracks must be provided mospel lotion for applying the same into their exposed parts of bodies
|
- Any prisoner/staff member who fells ill must immediately be referred to Medical Officer of the jail
|
|
- The proper instructions regarding the awareness of dengue virus/fever must be given to all the convicts as well as to the officers/officials
|
|
- In case of any suspected prisoner with symptoms of dengue fever, he must be kept in jail hospital under the supervision of Medical Officer
|
- Jail colony must be neat and clean
|
- Rubbish and garbage material must be thrown out side the Jail in any appropriate place
|
|
- Anti dengue spray must be conducted into the houses of Jail staff colony
|
- Anti dengue medicines must always be present/ available in the jail hospital
|
- The dispensary in staff colony must be remained open 24 hours alongwith requisite medicines
|
- Static water must not be present in open plots of jail colony as well as in the sewerage lines as the dengue mosquitoes evolves in standing water
|
|
- There should be no water in the fountains of jail
|
- All the gutters of jail and staff colony should be covered.

- Clear all the standing water from the roof of the barracks and houses of jail colony
