For the redressal of the grievances of general public, a Complaint Cell has been established at the Inspectorate of Prisons. The public is given a patient hearing by the IG Prisons himself and necessary directions are passed on the spot. In addition to this, all the Superintendent of Jails have been directed to daily sit outside their offices at least for one hour at some convenient and accessible place to redress the grievances of the general public.
Complaint boxes have been placed inside as well as outside the jails to develop a direct communication link between the administration and the inmates / visitors. Complaints can be submitted regarding the following issues:
- Bad behavior of officials with the interviewers
- Sale of sub-standards and costly items at jail canteen
- Unfair demands
- Problems faced by the inmates inside the jail
- Absence of the basic facilities for interviewers like clean wash rooms, drinking water, etc.
