Appointment and powers of Inspector General under section 5, Act IX, 1894:
According to Pakistan Prisons Rule 888, an Inspector General of Prisons shall be appointed for each Province and shall exercise, subject to the orders of the Provincial Government, the general control and superintendence of all prisons situated in the territories under such Government.
Inspectorate of Prisons monitors the working of five (5) Regional Offices and exercises control & command over the management and superintendence of Forty (40) Jails in the Punjab. It is also responsible for taking policy decisions and circulating various instructions from time to time besides monitoring their implementation.
