Inspectorate General of Prisons
The Inspectorate General of Prisons Punjab provides strategic leadership, supervision and administrative control over all correctional institutions across the Province, ensuring secure prison management, implementation of prison laws and rehabilitation-oriented correctional services.
Inspectorate
The Inspector General of Prisons Punjab has been appointed under Rule 888 of the Pakistan Prison Rules 1978 , who exercises, subject to the orders of the Provincial Government, the general control and superintendence of all prisons situated in Punjab under Section 5 of the Prisons Act 1894 .
Under Rule 889 of the Pakistan Prison Rules 1978 , Deputy Inspectors General of Prisons assist the Inspector General in supervising prison administration, inspections, and implementation of prison policies throughout Punjab.

Organization Overview
Posts of the Deputy Inspector General of Prisons (BPS-20) have been created at all Divisional Headquarters in Punjab, except Gujranwala, under the provisions of Rule 889 of the Pakistan Prison Rules 1978 . The Punjab Prisons Department has been divided into eight prison regions for effective supervision and monitoring of correctional institutions.
Regional Deputy Inspectors General supervise prisons within their respective regions, ensure implementation of directives issued by the Inspector General of Prisons, monitor compliance with prison policies, and maintain operational oversight of correctional facilities.
The Inspectorate exercises command and administrative control over Regional Offices and all prisons in Punjab while formulating policies, issuing instructions, monitoring implementation, and improving prison administration throughout the province.
