Overview

Overview

Punjab Prisons is committed to safe custody, rehabilitation and successful reintegration of prisoners by promoting correctional practices, education, healthcare and vocational development within a secure prison system.

Punjab Prisons is a progressive department committed to transforming offenders into responsible and productive citizens. The administration follows a correctional philosophy that emphasizes rehabilitation, creating a healthy and disciplined prison environment while encouraging moral education and successful reintegration into society after release.

The Department believes in the principle of "Hate the crime, not the criminal." It recognizes that a safe society cannot be achieved solely through imprisonment unless offenders are provided opportunities for correction, education, counselling and rehabilitation during their incarceration.

Punjab Prisons functions under the administrative control of the Home Department. The Inspector General of Prisons (BS-21) heads the Department at the provincial level and is assisted by ten Deputy Inspectors General of Prisons (BS-20). The Department comprises eight prison regions: Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Multan, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan, each supervised by a Deputy Inspector General of Prisons.
