Inspector General Punjab Prisons

Mian Salik Jalal

Inspector General of Prisons, Punjab

Committed to strengthening prison administration through accountability, transparency, professional leadership and prisoner rehabilitation.

A Message from the Inspector General

I am grateful to Allah Almighty for blessing me with the opportunity to head Punjab Prisons, the largest prison establishment in Pakistan. First of all, I pay tribute to the martyrs of Punjab Prisons who have greatly enhanced the honour and prestige of this esteemed organization by sacrificing their precious lives. Our martyrs are a source of pride and inspiration for all of us, and their families will always remain part of the Punjab Prisons family. It is my foremost responsibility to stand by them and address their concerns on priority.

Punjab Prisons Department is committed not only to ensuring the safe custody and control of offenders for the protection of society, but also to their correction, rehabilitation and reintegration. Every prison officer takes an oath to place public interest above personal interest. Any deviation from this principle cannot be tolerated. We are continuously working to enhance professionalism, capacity building and ethical standards within the prison service while ensuring respect, dignity and courteous treatment for every inmate and every visitor.

As Commander of Punjab Prisons, it is my responsibility to ensure merit-based recruitment, institutional reforms, accountability, transparency and adoption of modern correctional practices. Officers and officials who perform their duties with honesty, dedication and integrity will always receive institutional support, whereas negligence and misconduct will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.

Our guiding principles remain Custody, Care, Control and Correction. We are committed to transforming prisons into correctional institutions where inmates receive education, vocational training, psychological support and opportunities for rehabilitation so they may return to society as responsible and productive citizens. At the same time, the welfare of prison staff remains equally important, and every effort will continue to be made to resolve their genuine concerns fairly and transparently.

May Allah Almighty guide and strengthen us in fulfilling our responsibilities, serving the people of Punjab with honesty and dedication, and making our homeland a peaceful and secure place for future generations.

Pakistan Zindabad.
