Role of the Department
The Punjab Prisons Department is responsible for the confinement of inmates who have been arrested and are awaiting trial while on judicial remand. It is also responsible for prisoners who have been convicted by courts of law and sentenced to imprisonment. The Department works to ensure secure custody while promoting rehabilitation, education, discipline and successful reintegration into society.
