Milestone Achievements

  • Nine (9) new prisons i.e. District Jails, Layyah, Bhakkar, Pakpattan, Okara, Narowal, Hafizabad, Rajanpur, Sub Jail Shujabad and High Security Prison Sahiwal were made functional during the years 2015 & 2016 to overcome the problem of overcrowding of prisoners in jails.
  • Waiting & interview sheds were constructed at twenty eight (28) Jails to facilitate the inmates and their kith & kins.
  • Four thousand five hundred eight (4508) additional toilets were constructed in all jails to ensure hygienic conditions for inmates.
  • Family Rooms for inmates at Central Jails of Lahore, Faisalabad & Multan have been constructed.
  • Security Walls around twenty eight (28) Jails were constructed for strengthen the outer security to evade any terrorist attack from outside.
  • Razor cut wires on perimeter walls of all the Jails have been installed for providing an extra security cushion from inside.
  • PCO Facility at eleven (11) Jails was provided to prisoners for their easy communication with their families during last three years.
  • Medicines in sufficient stocks were purchased for the medical treatment of inmates.
  • Sixteen(16) Ambulances (Suzuki Bolan) were purchased for immediate shifting of inmates to outside hospital in emergency.
  • Forty two (42) Water Filtration Plants have been installed at thirty (30) Jails with the cooperation of NGO/ Philanthropists.
  • Medical equipment was purchased for all jail Hospitals for proper examination and treatment.
  • Vocational Training Centers at thirteen (13) Jails have been established where technical education is being imparted to inmates as a part of their Rehabilitation Program.
  • Low capacity electricity transformers were replaced with heavy capacity transformers at thirteen (13) Jails.
  • Modern and sophisticated Arms & Ammunition were purchased to enhance the security of jails.
  • Shaheed Package on the analogy of Police Department was approved on 20.04.2016 (Compensation to the family of Shaheed increased from Rs.4.000 (M) to Rs.10.000 (M).
  • Risk Allowance equal to one basic pay for the staff of High Security Prison Sahiwal and Elite Allowance to the elite trained warders was approved.
  • Eighty Eight (88) new posts of Chief Psychologists, Senior Psychologists and Psychologists have been created.
  • A total number of five hundred twenty five (525) Officers & nine thousand two hundred twenty nine (9229) officials were got trained from Army, Rangers, Police etc. for their capacity building.
  • Punjab Prisons Staff Training College is being constructed at Sahiwal for proper training of the prison staff.
  • A total number of  one thousand seven hundred forty nine (1749) officers / officials were recruited by the Prisons Department and through the PPSC.
  • Financial Assistance has been provided to the two hundred thirty eight (238) families of deceased officers / officials who died during service.
  • Cellular Jammers at fifteen (15) Jails have already been installed and thirteen (13) more Jails will be equipped with jamming devices in second phase to eradicate illegal use of mobile phones in jails.
  • Seven (7) Toyota Hi-Lux vehicles were purchased for inspection, surprise visits and raids at jails.
  • Security Gadgets and APC vehicle were purchased for High Security Prison Sahiwal for the security of the prison.
  • Wireless sets with Base Stations and Metal Detectors for all Punjab Jails were purchased for internal communication  and security.
