MOU Between Punjab Prisons and Bank of Punjab On Prisoners Cash Management System

In a significant step toward improving the welfare of prisoners and their families, the Punjab Prisons Department has signed new amendments to the existing Cash Management System Agreement with the Bank of Punjab. The signing ceremony took place at the office of the Inspector General (IG) Prisons Punjab.

The amendments were signed in the presence of IG Prisons Punjab, Mian Farooq Nazir. Representing the Punjab Prisons Department, DIG Headquarters Mian Salik Jalal signed the agreement, while Farid Ahmed, Group Chief Corporate & Investment, signed on behalf of the Bank of Punjab. Superintendent Jail Imtiaz Abbas and Sales Head Aamir Dar witnessed the signing. DIG Lahore Region Naveed Rauf, along with Sharjeel Ahmed and Nadeem Ashraf from the Bank of Punjab, were also present on the occasion.

Currently, 20 jails in Punjab are integrated into the cash management system. Under the new amendments, wallet accounts will now be opened for prisoners in the remaining 23 jails, ensuring complete coverage across all Punjab prisons.

To facilitate the families of inmates, the amendments also introduce multiple digital channels for depositing funds. Relatives can now transfer money directly into prisoners’ wallet accounts through JazzCash, EasyPaisa, UPaisa, RAAST ID, and One Link, allowing them to send funds conveniently from home.

Additionally, prisoners’ wallet accounts have now been upgraded to savings accounts, enabling easier fund management. In the event of a prisoner’s transfer from one jail to another, the wallet account and its balance will seamlessly follow.

IG Prisons Punjab, Mian Farooq Nazir, stated:

"This upgraded and transparent cash management system ensures that inmates can access their funds securely and without any manipulation. Funds are used through biometric verification for purchases at jail canteens and PCO services. The new amendments further empower families by making digital fund transfers easier than ever."

With these changes, all jails in Punjab are now linked to the cash management system, enhancing financial transparency, security, and accessibility for both prisoners and their families.
